Penngrove Traffic Bottlenecks

September, 2024 Penngrove Traffic Study

Sonoma County Public Infrastructure department has conducted a traffic study in Penngrove, California[1][3].

• The study was funded with $500,000 allocated by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors[5].

• Key issues identified: speeding, congestion, and lack of safe spaces for walking and biking[4].

• High-risk areas include intersections along Petaluma Hill Road and Old Redwood Highway[3].

• A fatal accident occurred in October 2022 on Old Redwood Highway[3].

• Proposed solutions include:
  - Restriping roads
  - Constructing roundabouts
  - Introducing speed tables
  - Adding buffered bike lanes
  - Creating a pedestrian pathway[3]

• Two roundabouts are planned for 2026 on Old Redwood Highway at Ely Road and Railroad Avenue[3].

• The county is seeking community feedback on proposed measures[3].

Supervisor Rabbitt will hold a Town Hall in early Fall. You’ll want to be grounded in the issues to make the most of the meeting. The glacial pace of funding the Study’s recommendations is a reality we have to acknowledge. But we can offer our priorities.

December, 2022: From: David Rabbitt, Supervisor, Second District

In order to address ongoing concerns about traffic in and around Penngrove, the County of Sonoma is preparing a traffic study to help identify and prioritize projects and traffic mitigations.  The project area is delineated in the map below. The study (referred to as the ‘Penngrove Traffic Study’) and is being managed by the County of Sonoma, Public Infrastructure Department (formerly Transportation Public Works) and conducted by GHD Engineering. Part of GHD’s scope was to develop a website to be used to accept public comments. That website is now ready and can be accessed by the link below:

www.penngrovetraffic.com

Please forward this link to any members of the public who potentially could make valuable comments to the area circled in blue below. Comments could be related to traffic, bike, pedestrian or other. We’re looking to get as many community members as possible to share their concerns for this area. We will arrange a town hall meeting in the spring to discuss these and other concerns and would appreciate your participation there as well. Please forward the website link liberally to people with concerns inside that blue line.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

David Rabbitt
