Your BVCA Board—Meet Matt Davis!
This month marks the initiation of a new column to introduce you to your BVCA Board, and we are starting with Matt Davis, our BVCA Treasurer.
Matt grew up in Bennett Valley, attended Strawberry, Slater, and Montgomery, and went on to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, where he met and married his wife, Chrystal. Matt always felt the pull of Bennett Valley, and knew he wanted to return and raise his family here--the couple have two terrific kids: Boone, 7, and Marguerite, 3.
As a financial advisor (and Vice President) with Morgan Stanley, Matt manages investments and develops financial plans for individuals and families, building on his 18 years in the profession.
Matt loved soccer growing up, and credits his coaches with life lessons on beyond love of the game. “…They served as mentors and role models for me, and inspired a love of teamwork” he said of his influences when young.
After a 10-year search, Matt and Chrystal acquired a 10-acre parcel in Bennett Valley, and are presently engaged in the adventure of building a new home here. “We both share a passion for the environment, and are doing all we can to build our new home sustainably, with reclaimed materials and installing a robust solar energy system”—AND they have already installed a kitchen garden, even though their projected move-in date is November 1.
Matt’s interests? Running, cooking, gardening, international travel, golfing, fishing and hunting to name a few. And anticipating the future? After all the busy-ness of house building is done, “slowing down and enjoying our little piece of Bennett Valley will be just fine”. He wants to get to know his land better, and maybe get a herd of goats.
Matt is big believer in community service and involvement, and translates it into positive action. “I’ve been on the Memorial Hospital Board for 15 years, and am proud of the work we have done to raise funds to create a Level 2 Trauma Center there for the local community”.
He continues to apply his teamwork principles to life here in Bennett Valley. “If you don’t get involved with your community, you don’t have a right to complain! Active local participation is key to making things better, and to preserving what you have”, he said in reference to maintaining the rural character of BV.
Becoming a part of the BVCA Board and joining the Grange are important parts of his relationship to the valley. Matt was recently spotted at the BV Grange BBQ in June, flipping chickens as a part of the crack team of pit masters. And, he most ably keeps track of the books for the BVCA.
Matt Davis and his family are certainly adding to the rich fabric of our community here.
Thanks Matt!
