Success at North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park

View from North Sonoma Regional Park

Interview between Robert Stephens and Jennifer Beer

What's the latest on the North Sonoma Mountain Regional Parks proposal for overnight camping and campfires?

We are cautiously optimistic about the changes we expect the Parks Department is likely to recommend regarding overnight camping and campfires. It appears they will adopt the majority of our recommendations to not allow overnight camping or campfires. The Board of Supervisors still needs to vote and approve this - we expect that to happen within the next few months. We also understand that the Parks department plans to allow some dog access in the park. Again, this all still has to be voted on by the supervisors but there is cause for optimism.

What's the timeline currently?

Next 6 months to a year we expect this to be voted on and finalized. Once it's approved that's when any actual work on trails could begin.

What do residents of BV need to know?

To continue to reach out and support our current positions. Stay informed here and via Parks news regarding this review.

The BVCA's position is the following:

What can the community do to support?

Reach out to our new supervisor - Rebecca Hermosillo - and let her know you are in support.  Once it is sent to the Supervisors - it will be open for public comment again. That's when you will hear from us to encourage everyone to comment in favor of this new updated plan.

How are you feeling about where things are?

We are feeling great. It has been a long haul for us since 2019. We are pleased to see what feels like where perseverance and engagement has paid off. We hope the community realizes the power of working together as a community through the BVCA.
